History

Crayons2Calculators’ history is rooted in education. Our programs were originally launched by Duke University students in the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program as they were challenged to tackle pressing social issues prevalent in the greater Durham community. A vision led by college students turned into a thriving nonprofit fulfilling a service gap experienced by many local students, teachers, and families. 

We officially received our nonprofit status in 2006 shortly after our inaugural school supply give away, then hired our first Executive Director in 2007. Our success over the years has continued to exponentially grow and we now distribute more than $100,000 annually to the most under-resourced schools in Durham. Our mission is more than providing essential school supplies, we empower students and teachers to reach their greatest potential.
